Summer of Learning 2024

Universal Transitional Kindergarten—8th Grade

The UTK-8th Summer School program will be offered in person and is designed to support core instruction, provide targeted academic intervention in a small group setting, as well as in-person enrichment activities in the Arts and Sciences at all participating UTK-8 summer school sites. 

Eligibility: Current Los Angeles Unified students with District ID number in grades UTK-8th

Registration: April 10 – June 7 (In-person registration required after June 7, 2024)

Program Dates: June 20 – July 19

Times: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday – Friday

How to Apply: Families have two options for enrolling a child in the UTK-8 program:
1. Request a Student Application and submit the completed form to the home school
2. Complete an online Student Application by visiting enroll.lausd.net

Virtual Academy: Universal Transitional Kindergarten – 8th Grade

Eligibility: For Current Virtual Academy Students Only

Offering a virtual option for summer programming ensures that students who learn best through virtual platforms can still benefit from targeted academic intervention and enrichment activities. By mirroring the in-person program, the program provides consistency and ensures that all students have access to the same level of support and enrichment, regardless of their learning preferences or circumstances. This inclusive approach is likely to benefit a wide range of students and help them stay engaged and continue learning over the summer break. Providing opportunities in literacy, mathematics, physical education, art, and STEAM ensures a well-rounded experience that caters to different interests and learning styles. Overall, it's a great way to support student learning and development during the summer months.

How to Apply: Families can enroll for all Summer Learning Options at enroll.lausd.net and select Enrichment. 9th - 12th Grade, Summer Term

High school students currently enrolled in Los Angeles Unified can take advantage of the Summer Term program. This program offers credit recovery courses and opportunities to accelerate progress toward high school graduation and preparation for post-secondary education. The program is structured with two periods of in-person classes taught by Los Angeles Unified secondary teachers and two periods of fully virtual asynchronous courses.

Program Dates: June 20 – July 19

Times: Monday to Friday

• Period 1: 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.
• Nutrition: 11:00 to 11:30 a.m.
• Period 2: 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
• Period 3 & 4: Asynchronous (Edgenuity curriculum)

Eligibility: Current Los Angeles Unified students with a District ID number in grades 9th – 12th

Summer Internships

The Los Angeles Unified School District proudly announces the Summer of Learning Internship program. The internship program offers hands-on experience for LAUSD “Rising Seniors” interested in learning about the various careers in public education. Students will have the opportunity to intern with schools, school management offices, the office of communications, the office of general counsel, facilities services offices, and the office of the superintendent. Students will understand the many Los Angeles Unified School District career paths and earn while they learn.

Eligibility: Applicants must be Rising Seniors (entering the 12th grade) eligible to apply for a work permit, able to commit 20–30 hours per week (June, 17, 2024 – August 9, 2024). We are looking for students with a strong work ethic, a passion for learning, who like to take on new challenges, and who are interested in public education and serving the community.
